2027 Pharmacy FAQs

GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit manager will change from Prime Therapeutics to Liviniti effective January 1, 2027. For UF Health St. Johns members, your pharmacy benefit manager will change from Express Scripts to Liviniti as you transition into GatorCare. We know you may have questions about what this change means for you and your prescriptions. This FAQ provides important information about the transition, steps you can take to prepare, and where to go if you need help.

Transition FAQs

For current GatorCare members, GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit designs are not changing because of this transition. Beginning January 1, 2027, Liviniti will replace Prime Therapeutics as GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM). While the company that administers your pharmacy benefits is changing, your GatorCare pharmacy benefit design is not.

For UF Health St. Johns members: You are transitioning to GatorCare effective January 1, 2027, so your pharmacy benefits will be based on the GatorCare plan you select during open enrollment for 2027 and may be different from your current benefits. Please review your Open Enrollment materials for information about your new GatorCare plan and pharmacy benefits.

  • Most members will not need to take any action. Because Liviniti has its own formulary and pharmacy programs, some medications may be affected by the transition.
  • If a medication you currently take is impacted, Liviniti will send you information explaining the change and any action you may need to take. Please review any pharmacy benefit communications you receive carefully.
  • Communications will be sent using the mailing address and email information provided to GatorCare through your employer’s enrollment files. Be sure your contact information is current with your employer, so you do not miss important communications.

If you have trouble filling a prescription on or after January 1, do not assume your medication is no longer covered. Call Liviniti at 833-946-3811 so the issue can be reviewed.

Have questions? We have answers. The FAQs below cover what you need to know about your prescriptions, pharmacy network, medication coverage, prior authorizations, and the transition to Liviniti.

Who is Liviniti?

  • Liviniti was selected by GatorCare to manage your pharmacy benefits starting January 1, 2027. As a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), Liviniti works to help keep your costs low while you get the prescription medicines you need.

Who Can Help Me with Questions about My Pharmacy Benefits or Prescriptions?

  • The Liviniti team is available 24/7/365 to answer questions and provide the support you need. Call them at 833-946-3811 or send them an email at GatorCare@Liviniti.com.

Who do I call concerning my prescriptions?

  • The GatorCare dedicated number is 833-946-3811.

What should I do before January 1 to make sure I don’t have a problem filling my medication?

A few simple steps can help make your transition to Liviniti as smooth as possible:

  • Review your current medications. Make sure you have an up-to-date list of the medications you and your covered family members take.
  • Check your medications. Use Liviniti’s Medication Search tool at Your Company Page – Liviniti (https://microsite.liviniti.com/ ) to see how your medications are covered and whether there are any requirements, such as prior authorization. Enter the GatorCare group number on your ID card or enter Group Number: GatorCare (not case sensitive) to log in.
  • Confirm your pharmacy is in-network. Liviniti has more than 60,000 participating pharmacies including UF Health Pharmacies. You can check your pharmacy by calling Liviniti Customer Service at 833-946-3811. After 1/1/27 you can find this information on the Member site: http://www.Liviniti.com/members
  • Watch your mail for important information. If one of your current medications is affected by the transition, you will receive a Transition of Care (TOC) letter explaining the change and any action you may need to take. Please review this information promptly and follow instructions.
  • Have your new ID card available beginning January 1. Present your new Florida Blue member ID card when filling your first prescription in 2027 so the pharmacy has your new Liviniti pharmacy benefit information.
    • For UF Health St. Johns members: You will no longer need a separate prescription ID card. Beginning January 1, your new Florida Blue member ID card will include both your medical and pharmacy benefit information, so you can use the same card when receiving medical care or filling a prescription.
    • ID cards will be mailed the beginning of December.
  • Ask for help if you are unsure. If you have questions about a medication or what you need to do before January 1, contact Liviniti Customer Service at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com.

Most importantly, do not wait until you are out of medication to address a question or concern. Reviewing your medications and any communications you receive before January 1 can help prevent delays when you need your next refill.

WHAT IS CHANGING?

Will my prescription copays or costs change?

  • For current GatorCare members, GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit design is not changing because of the transition to Liviniti. Liviniti is replacing Prime Therapeutics as GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), but your pharmacy copays, deductibles and other cost-sharing will continue to be based on the GatorCare health plan in which you are enrolled.
  • For UF Health St. Johns members: Because you are transitioning to GatorCare effective January 1, 2027, your prescription copays, deductibles and other cost-sharing will be based on the GatorCare health plan you select during open enrollment for 2027 and may be different from your current pharmacy benefits.
    • For details about your specific plan and pharmacy benefits, visit the Explore Your Benefits section (https://gatorcare.org/explore-your-benefits/) of the GatorCare website and select the plan in which you are enrolled.

Will Liviniti know what medications I’m currently taking?

  • Yes. As part of the transition to Liviniti, prescription claims information will be provided to Liviniti before the January 1, 2027 go-live date. For current GatorCare members, this information will come from Prime Therapeutics. For UF Health St. Johns members, it will come from Express Scripts.
This information will help Liviniti identify medications you are currently taking and support a smooth transition of your pharmacy benefits.
  • If one of your medications is identified as being affected by the transition, you will receive a Transition of Care (TOC) letter explaining the change and any action you may need to take.

How will I know if one of my medications is affected by the change to Liviniti?

  • If a medication you currently take is affected by the transition, you will receive a Transition of Care (TOC) letter explaining the change, your options and any action you may need to take.
  • The first TOC letters will be mailed in October. A second mailing will occur in December for members with newly identified impacted prescriptions after the October mailing.
    • Letters will be sent to the mailing address provided to GatorCare by your employer. Please make sure your address is current with your employer during Open Enrollment.
    • If you don’t receive a letter but have questions about a medication, contact Liviniti at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com

MY MEDICATIONS

What if my medication isn’t covered by Liviniti but I’m already taking it?

  • If a medication you are currently taking will be affected by the transition to Liviniti, you will receive a Transition of Care (TOC) letter explaining the change, your options, and any action you may need to take. This may include working with your provider to meet Liviniti’s coverage requirements or discussing alternative medication.
  • Please review your TOC letter promptly and follow the instructions provided. If you have questions or need help understanding your options, contact Liviniti at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com

I already have an approved Prior Authorization. Will I have to get another one?

  • Not necessarily. Whether you need to act will depend on your medication and Liviniti’s coverage requirements. If action is required, your Transition of Care letter will explain what you need to do. If you have questions about an existing PA, contact Liviniti at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com

What if my doctor says I cannot change medications?

  • Your Healthcare Provider can submit a prior authorization (PA). A PA allows your provider to share medical documentation and chart notes supporting why your specific medication is necessary for your treatment. This can be submitted electronically at any time, and the Liviniti team will reach out to your Provider directly. Liviniti’s team is available 24/7/365 at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com and can walk you or your doctor’s office through the process.

Will I need new prescriptions from my doctor?

  • Most members will not need a new prescription because of the transition. If a new prescription or other action is required for one of your medications, your Transition of Care letter will explain what you need to do.

What if I am in the middle of treatment when the pharmacy benefit changes?

  • Continue to follow your prescribed treatment plan. If a medication used in your treatment is affected by the transition, your Transition of Care letter will explain any action you need to take. If you are concerned about an interruption in treatment, contact Liviniti at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com

What happens to my current mail-order prescriptions and refills?

  • Liviniti will be sending targeted communications as part of the Transition of Care process for mail order prescriptions. If you currently use mail order, your prescription will need to be transferred to HealthDyne. As part of the transition, coordinate with your provider to have a new prescription sent to HealthDyne. If you need assistance, please call HealthDyne at 855-772-9384, or contact Liviniti Customer Service 24/7/365 at 833-946-3811 or GatorCare@Liviniti.com. Important: This is not applicable to your specialty medication prescriptions that must be filled at a UF Health Pharmacy. If you have questions about specialty medications, please contact Liviniti Customer Service 24/7/365 at 833-946-3811.

FILLING MY PRESCRIPTIONS

Will I still be able to fill my prescriptions at my current pharmacy?

  • Liviniti’s pharmacy network includes more than 60,000 retail pharmacies nationwide, including UF Health and major chains such as Walgreens, CVS, Publix, Winn-Dixie, Target and Kroger, as well as many local independent pharmacies. You can confirm whether your current pharmacy participates in the Liviniti network by visiting the Liviniti website at http://www.Liviniti.com/members, calling Liviniti Customer Service at 833-946-3811 or by email at GatorCare@Liviniti.com
    • GatorCare members are encouraged to use UF Health Pharmacies whenever possible. Members who fill a 90-day supply of an eligible maintenance medication at a UF Health Pharmacy receive a lower copay—two times the 30-day copay compared with three times the 30-day copay at other participating retail pharmacies.

What happens if I get to the pharmacy in January and my prescription won’t process?

  • If your prescription does not process at the pharmacy, do not assume that your medication is no longer covered. There may be several reasons a prescription cannot be processed, and Liviniti can help determine what is needed.
  • Call Liviniti at 833-946-3811 while you are at the pharmacy or ask your pharmacist to call Liviniti at the same number for assistance. Whenever possible, allow Liviniti and your pharmacist an opportunity to review the issue before leaving the pharmacy without your medication.

What if I need an urgent medication and there is a problem with my coverage?

  • If you need urgent medication and experience a problem at the pharmacy, call Liviniti at 833-946-3811 while you are still at the pharmacy or ask your pharmacist to call on your behalf. Liviniti Customer Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to help identify the issue and determine the appropriate next steps.
  • Do not assume that a rejected prescription means your medication is not covered. Whenever possible, give Liviniti and your pharmacist an opportunity to review the issue before leaving the pharmacy without your medication.

COST & BENEFIT INFORMATION

Will my deductible and out-of-pocket amounts transfer to Liviniti?

  • The transition to Liviniti will take effect on January 1, 2027, which is also the start of a new GatorCare benefit year. Because deductibles and out-of-pocket amounts are reset at the beginning of each benefit year, your calendar year deductible and out-of-pocket amounts will start at $0 on January 1.
  • For UF Health St. Johns members: January 1 marks the beginning of your coverage under GatorCare. Your applicable deductible and out-of-pocket amounts will begin with your new 2027 GatorCare plan.
  • This reset is part of the normal start of a new benefit year and is not a result of the change to Liviniti.

Will my prescription copays or costs change?

  • GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit design is not changing because of the transition to Liviniti. Liviniti is replacing Prime Therapeutics as GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), but your pharmacy copays, deductibles and other cost-sharing will continue to be based on the GatorCare health plan in which you are enrolled.

Filling Prescriptions

Do I have a new ID Card?

  • Your new Florida Blue Member ID Card will be mailed to your home, and your Liviniti information will be included.

How Can I Find Out More about a Specific Medication?

  • Your Member Portal and Mobile App for Google Play or IOS are the go-to locations for information about your meds. Use “Medication Search” and enter the drug’s name to find:
    • Information about the available strengths
    • Formulary tier
    • Whether the drug is considered a specialty medication
    • Whether it’s available over the counter
    • The route/method the drug is administered
    • Programs or pre-approvals needed under your pharmacy benefit plan

What is a Specialty Drug?

  • Specialty medications are biologic drugs used to treat complex, ongoing conditions. They generally cost more and you may have a higher out-of-pocket cost for specialty drugs. You can determine if a medication is considered a specialty drug in the Medication Search tool.

Can I Order my Prescriptions by Mail?

  • Under many benefit plans, you can choose a mail order pharmacy for medications you take on an ongoing basis. If you and your prescriber decide that a 90-day supply is right for you, visit Liviniti.com/members, enter your Group Number in the Company Page section and select the Mail Order icon to view your home delivery options.

Will there be any changes to the Formulary?

  • There is a formulary change. In the event you are impacted by the formulary change you will receive communication by mail informing you of necessary action. You will have a transition period to make the appropriate changes or visit with your physician.

What is a Prior Authorization (PA)?

  • Sometimes, when a patient is prescribed a specific medication for a complex condition, a prior authorization is required. When multiple medications can treat the same condition Liviniti will work with your doctor to ensure a cost-effective drug is selected. Prior authorization helps:
    • Ensure that the prescribed medication is approved by the FDA to treat your condition.
    • Determine if another drug should be tried first, before a more costly drug.
  • Once the PA is submitted by your doctor, Liviniti quickly evaluates the information and will determine if it is approved under your pharmacy plan. If a drug is denied for coverage, you and your doctor have the option to appeal the decision.

How Do I Find Out if a Prior Authorization is Required for my Medication?

  • Liviniti wants to make it easy for you to know which drugs require PA approval. You can look up this information using the Medication Search capability in your Member Portal and also on the Your Company Page. Visit Liviniti.com/members to reach these tools. If a prior authorization is required, you will notice “PA” under the column labeled “Coverage Restrictions.”

Self-Service Tools

Does Liviniti Have a Mobile App or a Member Portal?

  • Yes. Making sure that you can find the information you need to manage your prescriptions and your pharmacy benefits is important. We have a variety of digital tools to make it easy. Visit the Member Center at Liviniti.com/members to:
    • Login to the Member Portal or Your Company Page
    • Download the Member Welcome Guide for an overview of the capabilities and features of the Member Portal.
    • Download the Mobile App Flyer for an overview of the capabilities and features of the Mobile App, including QR codes that you can use to easily find the Liviniti App in the App Store that you use.

What is required to have a prescription filled or refilled at the pharmacy?
A member should provide their cardholder/member number, group number, Rx BIN (025945) and PCN (SSN), which is needed for processing.*Please note: SSN is referring the PCN code, not your Social Security Number. It is recommended to provide the pharmacy with the Rx/Prescription number as well.

The prescription plan has 6 tiers of coinsurance. How can I find out the tier for the medication being prescribed?
Liviniti has a formulary look-up tool for our GatorCare members.  The tool is user friendly and offers useful and important information. After navigating to this page, enter the name of the drug on the left hand side in the Drug Name Search field. After several seconds, possible matches will appear under the Drug Name Search field. Click on the drug you’re looking for.  All matches for that drug will be listed in the middle of the screen under Drug Details including the tier to which the drug is offered through the GatorCare formulary.

For more information, visit gatorcare.org/pharmacy. Note: *Pharmacy deductible does not apply to HDHP Saver plans.

  • The medication is available only through limited distribution and cannot be dispensed by a UF Health pharmacy
  • The medication is needed in an emergency situation, such as to facilitate discharge from the emergency department or an inpatient stay, and the UF Health pharmacy is not open (for example, during a weekend or holiday)
  • The member lives outside the state of Florida

Members Living Outside the State of Florida

Liviniti can assist with medication access, delivery coordination, and questions related to specialty medications for members residing outside Florida.

Prior Authorization for Specialty Medications
Many specialty medications require prior authorization before they can be dispensed.

Specialty medications covered under the pharmacy benefit require prior authorization through Liviniti.

Specialty medications covered under the medical benefit—such as those requiring IV infusion or administration by a provider in a clinical setting—require prior authorization through Florida Blue.

  • Florida Blue GatorCare Customer Service – 1-855-393-1085
  • Liviniti – (833) 946-3811

Routine requests for prior authorization have up to a 15-day turnaround time.  Urgent requests are usually processed within 72 hours.

What is the Variable Copay Program?
Variable Copay is a program offered through GatorCare’s Pharmacy Benefit Manager, Liviniti. It is designed to identify drug manufactures that offer copay assistance for specialty medications.

How does the Variable Copay Program work?

GatorCare’s pharmacy benefit plan uses UF Health Pharmacy as their exclusive specialty pharmacy provider, so to take advantage of the program members must fill specialty and diabetic Variable Copay Program medications via UF Health Pharmacy.

Variable Copay Program will connect you to manufacturers that help pay for certain medications through copay assistance programs. These programs require a manufacturer copay card.

Any copay assistance is determined by the drug manufacturer and they can change, reduce, decline, cancel or remove a drug from assistance at any time without advanced notice.

Please note: You may not be eligible to use a manufacturer copay assistance card if you have a secondary government insurance plan, even if that plan is not used to fill the medication. Examples of some government insurance plans include but are not limited to Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare D, and TriCare.

Am I required to order a 90-day supply for my maintenance medication?
Yes, members are required to fill their Tier 0-2 maintenance medications at a 90-day supply. Maintenance 90-day claims filled at UF Health pharmacies will receive a reduced copay (2x copay) vs claims filled at retail (3x Copay).

If my Physician prescribes a medication that has a generic equivalent, will the plan allow me to have the prescription filled as written and not require me to accept the generic?
The pharmacy benefits permit a member to have the prescription filled as written, but the member is required to pay the brand copay plus the difference in cost between the brand and generic if you choose a brand product when a generic equivalent is available.

For brand name medications with a generic equivalent available, prior authorization will be required.

If I am allergic to a generic drug or if my physician has determined that I cannot take a generic drug, what process must I follow to receive an exception?
To request an exception, an appeal with clinical documentation must be submitted to Liviniti.
Liviniti can be reached at (833) 946-3811.

I’m a new member and need to have a prescription filled and I do not have my new ID card. What should I do?
Member ID cards are one card for both medical and pharmacy benefits, therefore members will not have a separate card for prescriptions. If you need a prescription filled and have not received your GatorCare ID card, please contact Florida Blue. There are two on-site representatives to assist you, or you can call the toll-free number.

You can also print a temporary card directly from Florida Blue by logging on to www.FLBlueGroupBenefits.com and signing in. Click on my account, and choose the ID Card Services.

I am a new member. What is required to have a prescription filled or refilled at the pharmacy I’ve been using for years?
A member should provide their cardholder/member number, group number, Rx BIN (025945) and PCN (SSN), which is needed for processing. *Please note: SSN is referring the PCN code, not your Social Security Number. It is recommended to provide the pharmacy with the Rx/Prescription number as well.

What is the process to have a prescription filled that requires a prior authorization?
If a Prior Authorization is required for your medication, provide your prescriber with the prior authorization form located here or have them call 833-946-3811 to request your prior authorization as soon as possible. Liviniti will notify you and your prescriber if the prior authorization is approved or denied. If approved, your medication will be covered at the appropriate co-payment or co-insurance under your plan. If denied, you can either purchase the drug for the full price or discuss alternatives with your doctor or appeal the decision through Liviniti at the number listed above.
