Or does summer just make us Feel healthier?

Summer days often feel like the medicine we all need after those long, cold winter months. Beautiful sunny skies and warmer temperatures, especially with those long evenings, seem to lift our spirits. All these things combined seem to have great benefits for our health.
But is this seasonal shift truly improving our health, or is it just how we feel?
Let’s look at why we tend to feel better, mentally and physically, during those summer months.
The warm weather, more sunlight, and extra time spent outside, whether at the park, on a walk, or by the beach, come together to have a powerful impact on both our physical and mental well-being. Some of the positive effects of summer include increased vitamin D levels, lower stress, being more physically active, and making healthier food choices.
More Sunlight = More Vitamin D
Vitamin D is a hormone that helps regulate calcium levels in the blood. It’s essential for strong bones, muscles, and overall health. Many people have low levels of vitamin D in the winter due to less sun exposure.
But with summer’s longer days and better weather, it becomes easier to maintain healthy vitamin D levels. Vitamin D also plays a role in boosting mood and energy, which can make us feel happier during the summer months.
That said, don’t forget to wear sunscreen if you’re spending a long time in the sun. You can still get vitamin D while protecting your skin from harmful UV rays.

Less Stress
Summer often brings a break from our usual routines. Vacation plans, longer weekends, and the end of holiday-season pressure give us a chance to rest and recharge. That downtime is incredibly important for mental health and emotional well-being.

Increased Physical Activity
This time of year, opens many opportunities to be more active. With nicer weather, people are more likely to go outside, whether it’s for a walk, a swim, a bike ride, or just to play in the park.
Summer encourages us to soak up the day, almost like when we were younger and spent entire days outside. That boost in movement is great for our bodies and our minds.

Seasonal Eating Habits
Summer also encourages healthier eating habits. With more outdoor activity comes greater awareness of what we eat.
The season brings an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, which are naturally lower in calories and rich in nutrients. They also taste better when they’re in season! Plus, summer heat increases our need for water, reminding us how important it is to stay hydrated.
